About

The student

defn: a pupil; a person enrolled in a school of learning; one who studies, investigates, or examines thoughtfully.

I am a graduate student in Anaesthesiology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of British Columbia. My field of study is in anaesthesics and analgesics, or more specifically, research to examine a potential new mechanism for the treatment of chronic pain in osteoarthritis.

But enough with the dull stuff! Amidst the long hours spent at work and study, I try to find spare time to play. My hobbies includes: reading fantasy and science fictions, books and articles on psychology, discussing personality theories in online forums, playing badminton and casual online games, sketching, taking photographs and creating graphics and layouts for the web.

The muser

defn: a ponderer, poet; one who contemplates and mediates on some subject.

Have I mentioned that I am an avid reader and thinker? To me, everything in the world is interconnected. It gives me great joy to find the unexpected links between objects. I enjoy reflecting upon what I've read and expressing myself in prose or poetry. Some of my thoughts can be found in my blog thread, The Ni playground and more recently at All the world's a stage.

The site

defn: a connected group of pages on the internet usually maintained by one person or organization and devoted to a single topic or several closely related topics.

In November of 2005, nightning.breathtaken.net was first started. Once again, thank you to my friend Priscilla Chee for setting up and hosting this sub-domain for me. Originally, this was simply a personal website. It then slowly evolved into my place for creative escape.

This site is a playground of the truest form. Experimental play for self-learning. I have no formal education in fine art and design beyond classes in high school. I attempt to teach myself using books, online material and simply experimenting with the medium. Because of this, every single piece in my gallery has a theme, a story behind it. The site also serves as a time capsule to record my progress throughout my journey in design.
